1. Integrating the research evidence
Each participant was sent a summary document of the evidence for the different physiotherapy treatments available for people with Tennis Elbow, based upon previous research trials, prior to attending the meetings. During the meetings the participants discussed the evidence and added their own thoughts on which treatments should be included in the optimised physiotherapy treatment package to be used in the OPTimisE trial.
2. Patient opinions
Patients attended the meetings, who had experience of Tennis Elbow, to make sure that the treatments selected were realistic and were ones that patients would engage with.
3. Making it fit for use in the UK National Health Service
NHS physiotherapy service managers also attended the meetings to make sure that the treatments chosen were suitable for use in the NHS, taking into account numbers of appointments and realistic costs.
4. Making the final decisions
Everyone participating in the meetings was able to vote on their preferred treatment options to be included. Only treatments with 70% agreement were included.
